Opposition member of the parliament proposed the motion that would mean the freedom for thousands of convicted sexual offenders should the bill be passed in the parliament.
He says that although the law says age of consent is 16, almost 70% of girls do have their first sexual intercourse when they are just 12 or 13. Only a 3% of such incidents come to judicial review and young men gets convicted for unfair reasons and labeled as sexual offenders or rapers despite the sexual relationships were done with due consent of young girls. He said, "in many cases we have studied, young girls initiate and arouse young men in to a sexual relationship that later gets reported to police through girls parents".
Earlier a top German attorney, Hans Goldsberg said Laws on pedophilia is an outdated claim. “There will be the need for a consolidation of national laws under the current European system on the legal aspects of sex. Most of these national rulings don’t represent the modern social complexities of our times and are legally baseless” said the attorney.
Van Dicken, renown sociologist says these should no longer be taboo subjects and laws should be hypocritical knowing the reality is a total contrast to what the society wants and society is.
Men who have sex with minors currently face 3 to 10 years of prison according to Danish law. However with the proposed changes to the age of consent, these laws will also be changed says the legal experts.
The age of consent currently stand between 13 to 18 across Europe although UN standard remains at 16.
