A Muslim man in Sydney arrested last year over an alleged marriage of a 15-year-old girl has walked free after the charges against him were dropped by the prosecutors without giving a reason.
The Sydney man, Mustafa Abdelghany earlier charged for 25 counts of sexual harassment was released by District Court Judge Paul Conlon in Sydney last Tuesday as the prosecution informed the court that the matter would be closed. No reason was given as to why they withdrew the charges.
Mustafa was taken in to custody February last year for marrying a 15-year-old girl in Australia in 2014. Police also alleged that he assaulted and abused her for over a year.
Additionally he was charged for indecency and one count of assault. All charges were dropped last Tuesday before the judge without any valid reason given.
When questioned outside the court, Abdelghany's attorney AJ Karim said, "we're very happy with the result", but did not reveal why the charges were dropped or whether the child bride is still living with his client.
